Estimate object size in mils or MOA through the reticle. Free tool from brettjoiner.com
Mil: mil = (inches ÷ 36) × 1000 ÷ yards. A 1-mil object is 3.6" at 100 yd. Distance in yards = (inches ÷ 36) × 1000 ÷ mils.
MOA: MOA = inches ÷ (1.047 × yards ÷ 100). 1 MOA ≈ 1.047" at 100 yd. Distance = inches ÷ 1.047 ÷ MOA × 100.
| Object | Known size |

| 8" steel plate | 8" diameter |
| 12" steel gong | 12" diameter |
| Soda can | 4.8" tall |
| Milk jug | 12" tall |
| 55-gal drum | 35" tall |
| Traffic cone | 28" tall |
| Stop sign | 30" tall |
